Policeman shot by friendly fire during arrest

Police said they investigating an incident that occurred at about 0540h. today Sunday May 03, 2015, at Greenheart Street, Linden, where Police Constable Nathaniel Giddings was shot and injured to his left shoulder after a round was reportedly accidentally discharged by an armed policeman.

Investigations have disclosed that two police ranks, one of whom was armed with a service revolver, were making efforts to arrest two suspects in a larceny from the person matter during which a round was accidentally discharged that struck Constable Nathaniel Giddings who was in the vicinity at the time.

Constable Giddings has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.

The two suspects were arrested and are in police custody.
