Fire fighters Wednesday night succeeed in containing a blaze to a fuel-laden ‘bush truck’ and prevented it from spreading to the Two Brothers Gas Station at Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Fire Chief Marlon Gentle and eyewitnesses said efforts were being to ensure that the fuel supply facility was not struck by the flames. Thick smoke and flames were seen from several miles away.

Sources said three fire tenders were deployed to the scene.

Traffic along the north-south corridor has been shut down and being diverted back to the city, a taxi service proprietor told Demerara Waves Online News.

Reports are that people in the traffic queue are being robbed by bandits.
