Former President Bharrat Jagdeo on Saturday ruled out being a candidate for his governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) but confirmed that he would be on the campaign trail.“I am not on the ticket. I’m not interested in any constitutional post,” he told a news conference.
Nomination Day is April 7.
The PPPC’s campaign would be officially launched on Sunday, April 29.
Jagdeo, who ruled Guyana from 1999 to 2011, said he does not want a full time job with the government. “I will not be on the list…I have no intention of going into parliament,” he said.
About two months ago, President Donald Ramotar announced that Jagdeo has been appointed Chairman of a National Economic Council and would help craft the PPPC’s manifesto for general elections slated for May 11, 2015.
