The shooting and arrest of a suspected burglar and his accomplice have led police to the discovery of a large number of stolen items and the arrest of eight other persons.

A police spokesman said that at about 9:30 Monday night, two men, suspected to be burglars, were seen exiting a house at La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara.

“They were confronted by residents during which one of them was shot and injured to his right foot by a licensed firearm holder after he attacked them with a cutlass,” said police.

He was been identified as Vijay Ragnauth, 28 years, of Success, ECD, and is under guard at the GPHC.

His accomplice was also caught and is in police custody, police added.

Investigators said they have since recovered a number of stolen household articles, including electrical appliances, and the arrest of six men and two women who are suspected of receiving some of the stolen property.
