Police turn to public for help in identifying, locating waitress killer

Last Updated on Saturday, 6 September 2014, 19:14 by GxMedia

One of three similar images released by the Guyana Police Force

Two weeks after a waitress was gunned down at a city restaurant, police on Saturday released images of the shooter, hoping that the public could help identify and locate the killer.

The Guyana Police Force asked anyone with “information that may lead to his identification and possible location is asked to contact the police” on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 227-1149, 226-7065, 225-8196, 911, or the nearest police station. “All information will be treated with strict confidence.”

The blurred images of the man were captured from surveillance video at Delicious Restaurant, D’urban and Haley Streets, Wortmanville.

A senior police officer has told Demerara Waves Online News that the assailant might be part of a new crop of criminals.

Debra Blackman was shot twice on Saturday, August 23, 2014 by a man she had just served a take-away meal. The video shows the man at the counter, paying for the meal and whipping out handgun from which he discharged rounds at the 48-year old woman. Blackman was shot to her shoulder and neck.

The motive for the shooting has not been established because nothing has been reported stolen from the restaurant.

The mother of five then fell to the ground. Persons at the scene said the Chinese managers of the restaurant almost immediately closed the doors of the eatery. Despite incessant appeals for the door to be opened so that the bleeding woman could have been rushed to hospital, the managers only relented when police arrived at the crime scene.
