A utility worker was Thursday night shot and robbed in the city.

He is Leon Andrews, a former employee of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Incorporated. He still services the electricity sector through a company that has been contracted by GPL.

Andrews sustained a gunshot injury to his right ankle.

He was attacked on Sussex Street, Georgetown.

Andrews was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where several of his colleagues and friends were gathered.

They were, however, tight-lipped about the incident.
