A boat carrying Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds up the Canje River, Berbice was Friday afternoon involved in a minor incident but no one was injured, a senior regional official said.
The official explained that the captain of the 250 Horsepower fiberglass boat “banked a turn too rash” and ended up in the bush on a river bank.
However, the mission to Baracara was aborted and the boat carrying 11 persons returned.
Sources said the Prime Minister has been visiting Berbice frequently in recent weeks as part of a low-key general election campaign.
Hinds, 70, is Prime Minister almost continuously since 1992 when the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic won elections for the first time since 1964.
