MURDER ACCUSED: Jermaine Otto

A small-scale gold miner was Tuesday arraigned for the murder of a businessman during the course of a robbery outside the Botanical Gardens, Georgetown one week ago.

Appearing before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman, 25-year old Jermaine Otto of 735 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown was not require to plea to the indictable charge. He, however, told the court that he was not aware of the offence and that he was only told that he was a suspect in a robbery murder.

Police said Otto murdered Ashook Raghu on August 18, 2014 at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown during the course or furtherance of a robbery on the man and his wife, Shyrazadi Raghu.

The bandits allegedly stole property to the value of GUY$4 M.

Twenty-one year old Travis Mc Dougall of 422 East Ruimveldt was last week Friday charged with the same offence.

The Prosecution’s case is that about 1 PM on that date, the couple were in their motor car, PGG 8291, when Otto and his accomplice rode up on a CG motorcycle at the driver’s side.  There, Ashok was shot to his chest and one the men snatched bag containing the valuables. His wife was shot to one of her thighs as she resisted one of the men.

Otto said he could not afford a lawyer.
