Several injured in Port Kaituma collision

Last Updated on Sunday, 17 August 2014, 14:58 by GxMedia

Several persons were Sunday morning injured in a collision between a bus and a car at Port Kaituma, residents confirmed.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that the accident occurred at Quarry Top, located about three miles from Central Port Kaituma.

The car driver, Dave (only name) sustained broken limbs and another man, who was unidentified, sustained a huge gash to his head and cuts about his body. The bus conductor, Ishram (only name available) was hospitalized but there were no visible serious injuries.

Sources said the conductor, who was not a licensed driver, was driving the bus in the wrong lane due to the poor condition of the road. The bus driver sought to go on the right lane on seeing the car but, according to the sources, at the same time Dave drove the car on that side of the road to avoid the bus when the collision occurred.

Residents believe that the accident could have been avoided if the road was repaired and maintained.
