Youths convicted for arms, ammo possession

Georgetown Magistrates’ Court

Two  young men were Wednesday convicted for being in possession of arms and ammunition and they were fined and jailed.

Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry fined Kevin George,18, of 99 Haley Street, Wortmanville and Dapper Johnson, 18,  of  158 Curtis Street, Albouystown, Georgetown GUY$100,000 each on the two charges and sentenced them to three years on each offence. However, they will only serve three years because the sentences will run concurrently.

They were arrested on January 22, 2013  at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown with one concussion grenade and one explosive grenade. However, the charge in relation to those devices was scrapped by the court because .they were improperly put.

They wereconvicted for being in possession of one M15 rifle and being in possession of 61 rounds of 223 ammunition while neither  of them was a licenced firearm holder.

Police said the youths were seen acting suspiciously and they were stopped. George then took off a black haversack and threw it to Johnson who then dropped it on the ground.

A search was conducted and the items were found. The suspects were arrested and charged.
