A suspected serial bandit was arrested Thursday morning and GUY$4 million recovered shortly after he attempted to rob a man at the Mon Repos Market, police said.
“The suspect, who is in police custody, is also wanted by the police in connection with two other armed robberies on the East Coast of Demerara,” police said in a statement.
Police also recovered an air pistol with pellets was allegedly found in his possession.
The incident occurred at about 8:05 AM when 56-year old Rajdeo Taijpaul of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was at the Mon Repos Market, East Coast Demerara was attacked by a man armed with a firearm.
Taijpaul put up a resistance and a struggle ensued over the bag which burst and the monies fell out on the roadway, police said.
Guyana Police Force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said a mobile police patrol that was passing at the time responded and the perpetrator attempted to escape, but was pursued and caught by the police.
