PPP’s Navin Chandrapal’s cancer condition “deteriorated”

Last Updated on Wednesday, 9 July 2014, 22:15 by GxMedia

Navin Chandrapal
Presidential Advisor on Sustainable Development, Science and Technology, Navin Chandrapal is suffering from severe cancer, a senior government official confirmed on Wednesday.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said Chandrapal “deteriorated but I’m told that he is out of the Intensive Care” and was at home with his family in New York. Luncheon said Chandrapal was continuing to receive out-patient treatment.

“We all hope for the best and that his recent developments in his cancer and dealing with the cancer do not force us to act otherwise,” he said.

The well-liked, simple and unassuming Chandrapal has been suffering from stomach cancer for some time now.  At one time, the former Agriculture Minister appeared to be on the mend but in recent weeks suffered a relapse.

Chandrapal was sacked by then President Bharrat Jagdeo but was re-hired one month after Donald Ramotar took office.

Luncheon confirmed that the Guyana government was footing Chandrapal’s medical bill.
