Suspected rapist shot dead

A suspected rapist was shot and killed a man after he attacked a policeman who was trying to arrest him, investigators said.

He has been identified as Joel Ross. The incident occurred about 12:30 PM Tuesday at Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

“This caused the rank to resort to the use of force and Joel Ross was shot to his body. He succumbed to his injuries,” said police force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker.

Police said Ross was wanted in relation to a matter of rape committed at Haslington, East Coast Demerara on April 21, 2014.
