One dead, five injured in East Bank Essequibo accident

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 20:59 by GxMedia

One person was killed and several others were injured when a Tundra crashed into a tree and slid down the bank of a trench at Road-en-Rust, East Bank Essequibo.

Dead is 15-year old Ryan ‘Van Damme’ Brescinio. He died at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

Four others were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital from where four were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). They are Rohan Mohammed, Ronald Chan,18, Karen Gobin,11, and 13-year old Ryan Nandlall. Four others were treated and sent away and one remained a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

A relative of the dead man said the driver of the Tundra told her and other persons that he was going to play Phagwah after he had finished consuming alcoholic beverages. He then collected several youths in the tray of the vehicle.

She said apparently, the boys flew out of the vehicle as ran off the road and was partly submerged in the canal.

Moments later, she and her relatives learnt of the accident and rushed the injured to hospitals. Those injured include relatives- Karan Arjune, Ronald (only name available), Ryan Nandlall- and neighbours Gerald and Kanga (only names available)

The driver was left at the scene with the vehicle.
