Even as police continued their manhunt for a man who escaped from the Georgetown Hospital while in custody, his associate was Monday charged with alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
David Bernard pleaded not guilty to being in possession of one 9 MM pistol and one live matching round and one .38 revolver and six matching round on March 6 at ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry refused him bail. He was remanded to prison until March 21 .
The court, meanwhile, issued an arrest warrant for 21 year old Dexroy Brown of Waterloo Street, Georgetown who escaped from the Georgetown Hospital about 5:30 AM Monday. He fled the Male Surgical Ward after the police handcuffed him and went to the washroom.
Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the court that about 11:15 PM Bernard and another man were on a CG motorbike when police stopped and searched them. The prosecutor said Grant was the cyclist.
While nothing was found on the men, police said the two guns were located under the motorcycle’s seat.
