The woman, who is accused of killing her seven-year-old daughter and attempting to kill her 21-month-old son, will be charged with murder, based on advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Demerara Waves Online News was reliably informed that police obtained the advice late on Friday afternoon to institute the indictable charge on 26-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud.

Police said the woman was discharged on Thursday at about 1 p.m. from the Port Mourant Hospital.

After then, she was taken to the scene at Fyrish Road (Hogtown), Corentyne, Berbice, interviewed and a statement taken.

Ms Shivpersaud remains in police custody and can be arraigned before a Berbice magistrate on Monday.

When her mother entered the home forcibly, she was seen on the bed with several wounds to the back of her heels.

Investigators said her daughter’s, Isabella Dabadial, motionless body was seen on the bed and her son was in a semi-conscious state. He was treated and later discharged.

Police said the woman admitted to committing the offences because her husband deserted the family for several days and she woke up without anything to eat.

Human services minister Vindhya Persaud said her ministry had no record of the woman seeking help.
