A Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) engineer on Monday remained in police custody in Lethem as a probe continued into his alleged sexual relations with a minor who is now pregnant.
Investigators were told that the engineer of the government-owned utility company was arrested on Saturday afternoon for allegedly impregnating a 15-year old girl in the border township.
The engineer, who is from the coastland, has been working in Lethem since February, 2013.
GWI spokesman, Timothy Austin said the company has begun receiving phone calls from residents in Lethem and an internal investigation has been launched. Austin said GWI would cooperate fully with the police.
He confirmed that the engineer was in police custody.
