A bandit was early Friday morning shot dead and two guns recovered when he and others invaded the home of a fisherman and member of a Community Policing Group (CPG) at Annandale North, East Coast Demerara.

Gruesome images seen by Demerara Waves show the bandit lying on the kitchen floor with a gaping wound to his neck.

Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud said the identity of the man was not immediately available.

He confirmed that the incident occurred about 2 AM at the home of Merano Jeffrey also known as Warrie.

Two other bandits escaped when Jeffrey, a member of the CPG, opened fire with the CPG’s shotgun that he had in his possession at the time.

Investigators were told that Jeffrey’s father, who is a fisherman and owner of several boats, heard a noise and when he looked outside he saw two men in the yard.

His son and the now dead bandit exchanged gunfire and missed each other. Jeffrey took cover in a nearby room and ambushed the gunman, shooting him in his face and neck.

A .22 handgun was found in possession of the dead bandit and one of the escapees dropped a bag and a .38 handgun near the fence.

Nothing was stolen and none of the occupants was injured.
