Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:00 by GxMedia

Leon Rodrigues and Raveena Cozier

The 28-year old man, who stabbed to death his 16-year old girlfriend and dumped her body in a creek at Kuru Kururu, committed suicide near his mother’s residence on the Essequibo Coast, police said.

Dead is Leon Rodrigues, a gold miner.

Police said that the man’s body was founding hanging in a house he was building for himself a short distance from a sandpit at Suddie, Essequibo Coast about 2:50 PM.

Before committing suicide, the man had spoken with his mother Geraldine Rodrigues, who owns the sandpit.

Rodrigues’ death essentially makes the murder of the teenager, Raveena Cozier an “open and shut” case for investigators who had hoped to apprehend and charge him with murder. The girl’s body was found about 8 AM Tuesday morning by her mother and sister.

He was last seen late Monday night departing Kuru Kururu in a taxi. The taxi reportedly dropped him off at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

When the body was retrieved from the Kakabura Creek, crime scene detectives saw stab wounds to the temple and back of the head as well as slit wrists.
