One suspected robber was shot and two others arrested Wednesday morning at Haslington, East Coast Demerara while attempting to rob a businessman outside his home, police said.

Two of the men are from Haslington and the other is from Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara.

Guyana Police Force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittakere said that about 5:15 AM, 63-year old Dularie Rajkumar of South Haslington  was in her home when three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered through the open door.

The men held up the woman and began assaulting her while demanding cash and jewellery. Rajkumar’s son Deonauth Rajkumar who is a licensed firearm holder, was alerted and came downstairs to his mother’s assistance.

“The armed man discharged a round at Deonauth Rajkumar who returned fire hitting the man to his right hand,” said Whittaker.

According to the spokesman, the three perpetrators escaped out of the house and ran into another building some distance away, where they were subsequently arrested by the police.
