A 16-year old boy is feared drowned after he disappeared from the Kitty Jetty shortly before 6 PM Thursday, his mother said.

He has been identified as Jerome Sturge of 32 East Ruimveldt Front Road, Squatting Area, Margaret Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).

Sturge’s mother said she first learnt of her son’s disappearance from the jetty when a man from the area barely known to her went to her home and delivered the sad news.

Preliminary information reaching the mother was that he was in the company of two other teenagers when a high wave lashed him overboard. The lads gave statements and were asked to return to the Kitty Police Station on Friday.

When Persaud visited that station, police took out her son’s clothing that he had worn Thursday from a cupboard and showed her.

The woman said that as far as she recalled he did not have any major disagreements with anyone.

He was a former student of Carmel and David Rose Secondary Schools. Persaud said that her son spent most of his time with his brother-in-law who makes and sells puri wholesale.

She said that her son frequented the jetty and would often return home about 9 PM.
