Two persons were killed and three others rescued following a boat collision on the Upper Demerara River, police said.

Dead are 28-year old Dale Duggin of Maritaro Village, who was the captain of one of the boats, and his passenger Williamson Felix.

The accident occured about 9 PM in the vicinity of Maritaro, Upper Demerara River.

Those rescued are 33-year old Telford Lim of Malali, Upper Demerara River, and his two passengers Michael Edwards of Endeavour, Lower Demerara River, and Travis Gilkes of Malali.

Telford Lim is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
