Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:00 by GxMedia

A teenager was battered to death and a contractor was one of three persons killed on the country’s roads, police said on Sunday.

Investigators said 18-year old Budhan also known as Toy of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara was beaten to death with pieces of wood, bottles and other objects.

The incident occurred at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara and stemmed from an altercation with three men, police said.

A man, with a wound to his back, has been arrested and he is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

In the latest road accident a contractor, who maintains canals in a section of Region Three, and a relative were struck down at Tarla Dam, Meten Meer Zorg.

Sources said 51-year old Hasid Bulla and 56-year old Juman Ally of De Willem, West Coast Demerara were struck down by a car. Eyewitnesses said a car hit a motorcycle and then swayed a few feet away into the path of the Bulla and Ally. Another man, Latchman Chand, sustained a broken left shin and has been transferred to the Georgetown Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The driver has been held to assist with the investigations.

“Investigations have revealed that Bulla and Ali were on the roadway in conversation with Latchman Chand, 55 years, of Meten-Meer-Zorg when the driver of a motor vehicle lost control of the vehicle and collided with them,” police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker said in a statement.

45-year old Brimchand Rampaul, 45 years, of No. 19 Village, Corentyne was walking along the roadway when he was struck down by a car tt was travelling at a fast rate and of which the driver had lost control. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The driver of the motor vehicle received injuries and is under guard at the GPHC. He was tested and found to have been over the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol.
