Traffic cop dies in road accident

A policeman was killed and his colleague seriously injured in an accident involving a motorcycle they were riding on the Zeelugt Public Road, West Coast Demerara on Wednesday night.

He has been identified as Constable Shaquille Anderson, a traffic policeman attached to the Parika Police Station.

The name and condition of the other policeman, who was the pillion rider, was not immediately available.

Anderson was pronounced dead while undergoing emergency surgery at a city hospital.

Anderson’s death has brought to three the number of policemen who have died in 24 hours.

Two others were gunned down in the line of duty when a gold miner went berserk on Middle Street, Georgetown. Four persons were killed before the assailant was shot dead in an exchange of gunfire with lawmen.
