Govt injects GUY$60 million in forensic equipment

Government says it is spending more than GUY$60 million on forensic and photographic equipment for the security sector including the Forensic Laboratory being constructed in the compound of the University of Guyana (UG), Turkeyen.

The Home Affairs Ministry said in a statement that the suppliers were selected using the national competitive bidding process. The lab, the ministry said, was “at an advance stage of completion.”

The total being spent is GUY$ 64,814,321.00

The ministry listed that the International Pharmaceutical Agency (Guy) Limited of Lot 22 ‘B’ Camp Street, Georgetown was awarded the contract to supply and deliver items to the Forensic Laboratory as follows:

•    Lot 1 – Small Apparatus and Glassware (150 items) in the sum of GUY$39,616,509.00. These items include beakers, test tubes, pipettes and storage containers.

•    Lot 2 – Consumable and Chemicals (248 items) in the sum of GUY$10,174,812.00. These items include chemicals, reagents, acids and solutions.

“These items are needed to perform daily analysis, testing and sampling,” said the ministry.

Additionally the supplier Pressy Enterprise of Cowan and Parade Streets, Kingston, Georgetown was awarded the contract in the sum of GUY$15,024,000.00 for the procurement of photographic and forensic equipment for the Guyana Police Force.
