Gold miner shot, robbed

A gold miner was Saturday afternoon shot and robbed of a quantity of gold in the North West District.

He is 34-year old Claude Austin of Prince William Street, Plaisance. He sustained pellet injuries about his body and a serious wound to his right hand. Sources said his condition is listed as stable.

The incident occurred on Saturday in La Loca, Five Star Backdam on Saturday. However, he was only able to reach out to Matthews Ridge Hospital shortly after 2 AM Monday because of the rugged terrain. He related that he walked part of the distance but began to suffer from shortness of breath until someone on an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) rescued him.

Initial information is that two men, armed with shotguns, attacked Austin and grabbed the precious yellow metal.
