Rice farmer shot dead during home invasion

A rice farmer on the Corentyne was shot and killed during a robbery attempt at his home.

He has been identified as 74-year old Lallpersaud Jagadeo.

Police said four men armed with guns invaded his home around 8:15 Tuesday night.

“Investigations revealed that the perpetrators entered the premises and held up Jagadeo’s wife and four other women who were outside.

The women raised an alarm and Lallpersaud Jagadeo came downstairs and intervened during which he was shot to his chest by the perpetrators who escaped,” police said in a statement.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon Hospital. Investigations are in progress.
