The names of the missing persons were not immediately known.
However, Dev Persaud confirmed that the three persons were missing since Monday (September 2). He declined to give their names.
Persaud said the boat was transporting a quantity of fuel and soil samples.
Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) was told that the samples amounted to three metric tonnes of tantalite.
Persaud said a search was continuing for the trio who went missing since Monday in the deep waters of a narrow creek in the Potaro area.
