One feared drowned, three others seriously injured in boat accident

One person is missing and presumed dead after a passenger boat hit a log in the Port Kaituma River ,North West District Tuesday afternoon.

Reports are that a small passenger boat , called “Breeze Out” was heading to Mabaruma  from Port Kaituma around 4 pm when the vessel hit a log during heavy rains.The vessel then slammed into  mangrove patch along the banks of the river. The accident occurred in the vicinity of Sebai, sources revealed.

Missing is Shevon Anthony , a resident of the Barima river area. “She is believed to have drowned.The body is not yet recovered,” police said in a statement.

Those injured are 20,year old Troy Caravao who sustained injuries to his hands and feet and Diane Allen ,25 and Sunita Debideen,20 who both sustained lacerations to their head.

The trio were among six persons who were rushed to the Port Kaituma hospital late this afternoon and plans are in train to have them air dashed to the city but reports are that poor weather conditions are prevailing in the area Tuesday evening.

Several other persons ,including two children and the vessels’ captain Mark Caravaio were treated and sent away
