A man, who decided to settle a disagreement at a birthday party by firing a shotgun, was injured to his face.

Police said the 12 gauge shotgun and an empty casing were handed over to the police at the scene of the shooting at Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony Creek, East Coast Demerara.

Investigators said that about 12:40 AM Monday, police responded to a report of the discharging of a loaded firearm where they found Mahendra Persaud, 29, of Esau and Jacob in a yard with injuries to his face.

Persons, who handed over the firearm to police, said Persaud had an argument with a man during the function.

“He left and returned with the firearm and discharged a round, after which several persons took away the firearm and during which he received injuries,” Guyana Police Force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said in a statement.

There were no reports of gunshot injuries

Persaud was taken for medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation as the investigations continued.
