A Brazilian man late Thursday night scaled the Office of the President gate and was subsequently arrested, a senior police officer confirmed.
Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud said the man was up to late Friday morning being interviewed by investigators.
He could be charged with trespassing.
Other sources told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) that the guards inside the Office of the President compound did not see the man jump the fence of the Vlissengen Road gate which the President uses.
They were instead alerted by a Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Guard at Castellani House. There was heavy rainfall at the time.
Sources said the man claimed that he was chased by robbers and decided to seek refuge inside the yard of the Presidential Complex.
Presidential guards say they want more to be done to increase their ability to use close-circuit monitoring of the complex after normal working hours.
