A German man was Sunday killed and his wife injured in a mishap on the Lethem road, according to well-placed sources.
The deceased has been identified as 74-year old Helmutt Frederik Ottman. His wife, 73-year old Ingrid Margaret Ottman was injured and was admitted to the
Police said that the man was driving his motor vehicle along the trail at Metezere, Lethem, when he lost control of the vehicle which turned over and pinned him.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Lethem Hospital.
A well-placed source said the Germans were heading to Brazil, having visited wokrama Rainforest and Conservation Centre on Saturday.
They travelled from French Guiana via Suriname.
