Building contractor shot

A building contractor was Saturday afternoon shot several times and robbed of some $350,000 near a construction site on the East Bank Demerara.

Injured is 43 year old Umraow Khan of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.

The Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) did not name him, but said that at 5:50 PM a 43 year old man of East Indian descent “was brought to the Institution with gunshot wounds to the chest.  He is in stable condition and is being monitored.”

Khan is a contractor at a low-income housing scheme being developed in the vicinity of the Eccles Industrial Estate/ Haags Bosch landfill.

According to reports, Khan was standing on the road and was about to pay workers when he was accosted by several men.

Persons at the construction site declined to say whether he was robbed of cash. The Guyana Police Force has not issued a statement about the incident.
