PPP MPs, former PM interrogated by SOCU

Three Parliamentarians of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) and Former Prime Minister Samuel Hinds have been interviewed by the Guyana Police Force in connection with a recent audit report on NICIL.

The parliamentarians include PPP Chief Whip Gail Teixeira, Nigel Dharamlall and Irfaan Ali.

While only the three have been interrogated thus far, others are expected to appear before investigators of the Special and Organised Crimes Unit (SOCU).

Teixiera on Wednesday told reporters at a press conference that the officers came to her home and requested an audience with her.

"Knowing that some of the other people had appointments, I said okay can I come in today or tomorrow and they said today so I went in," the Chief Whip detailed.

She stated that she went to SOCU in the company of her attorney Bibi Shaddick.

Asked what she was questioned about, Teixeira said she could not"talk about those right now" but noted that the questions were centered around the audit report submitted by Anand Goolsarran.

"They said its the first phase of looking at the statements and issued raised in Mr Goolsarran's report that relate to criminal activity," said Teixeira.

Goolsarran has said that his report has found numerous damning pieces of evidence that shows how NICIL, the government’s holding company for state assets, was being run.

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon had also announced that government had called in the police to conduct a criminal investigation into the matter.

‘Damning evidence’ of how the place was being run calls for a criminal investigation?
Danm what? Ah. It gets better. should all other Gvt agencies that are ‘not properly run’ be subjected to criminal investigations? Is it within the ourvue of an ‘audit’ for the auditor to ‘recommend’ criminal charges? Come Guyana’s auditors.

These people that were questioned from the PPP needs to be sequestered. Then bring Jagdeo and the rest. these Crooks must not be speared from prosecution. They have done a lot of crimes against the Guyanese people.

I cannot understand why the coalition would be calling in PPP operatives to answer questions raised in the Goolsarran audit while allowing Brassington to leave Guyana.

I maintain that the NICIL audited report should have been presented to Parliament where the Public Accounts Committee is granted subpoena powers to depose Brassington and anyone else on red flag spendings. After such hearings, the matter can then be turned over to the police for any charges to be filed based on specific areas of illegality that emerge during the hearings.

I can only hope there is a method to this seeming madness.
