An American woman was Tuesday found guilty for procuring persons to traffick in cocaine and she was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

She is 56-year old Dawn Saul-Khan of 2098 Festival City, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Magistrate Leron Daley found the accused guilty of procuring Chaliqua Johnson to traffic 365 grammes of cocaine to the United States of America on October 12, 2012 at Alexander Village, Georgetown

Johnson, who testified against Saul-Khan, was charged with being in possession of the 365 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Prosecuting was Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stephen Telford.

The court was told that Saul-Khan had arrived in Guyana on October 7, 2012 and procured Johnson to come to Guyana the following day and had her stay at Alexander Village. There, she demanded that Johnson strap the cocaine to her body or she would not return her travel documents and that she would not have been allowed to leave Guyana.  Johnson detailed to the court that Saul-Khan had strapped the cocaine to her body with several garments.

Three other persons linked to Saul-Khan had been also busted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with amounts of cocaine totaling almost two kilogrammes. They were Gregory Hoyte of 157-18 7th Avenue, Queens, New York; Adrian Roberts of 1450 David’s Boulevard, Queens, New York, and Assistant Nurse Melissa Gouria of 148-17 Brookville Boulevard, Queens, New York. They were charged with having  745 grammes, 675 grammes and 490 grammes of cocaine, respectively in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The prosecution’s facts are that Saul-Khan, Johnson, Hoyte, Roberts and Gouria were caught shortly before boarding a Delta Airlines flight to New York.
