Opposition We Invest in Nationhood supporters protested short distance from State House where President Irfaan Ali is later Thursday afternoon scheduled to host United Kingdom’s King Charles III at a State reception.

Efforts were made earlier to arrest Hana Mohamed, the sister of Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed. The protesters chanted slogans that included a call for him to be freed, having been arrested Wednesday in connection with an allegation that he bought police surveillance video from a policeman for GY$800,000. “Free our leader now.  Freedom now”  ‘Hands off our leader”,  “Hands off him now,” and “No Azruddin, no peace” , they shouted under the watchful eyes of policemen and policeman. They also demanded compensation for descendants of African slaves and the arrest of the Guyana Police Force’s Special Branch, Senior Superintendent Prem Narine for what Mr Mohamed and other top party officials said was an assassination attempt earlier this month.

They also called for the release of police constable Ryan Greene who has been arrested in connection with the downloading and alleged sale of the surveillance video to Mr Mohamed.

Shortly after, a group of anti-Mohamed protesters arrived. They were kept at bay by police in order to avoid a clash with WIN supporters.

They held placards that read “Give the people back their wealth”, “Extradite  Mohamed now”, and Mohamed tell us what happened to Paper Shorts”
