A man was arraigned on Friday for the alleged murder of his six-year old son, police said.
Forty-five year old Bharrat “Viji” “Crank” Jaikarran, a cane harvester of Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice, was charged with the murder of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran
Police alleged that the man killed his son Thursday October 15, 2026, at Waterloo Main Canal, Bath, West Coast Berbice. Mr Jaikarran was arrested on Tuesday October 20, 2026 and subsequently charged on Friday October 23, 2026, with murder, contrary to common law.
Weldaad magistrate Shareefah Parks read the charge to him. Mr Jaikarran was not required to plea ford to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison, police said.
The matter was adjourned to November 12, 2026, and transferred to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
The Guyana Police Force previously said the child was taken to the Waterloo Main Canal, where he was allegedly chopped to the neck with a cutlass.
The partly decomposed and headless body of the boy was retrieved
“An examination of the body revealed that the head was missing, along with portions of the left hand and right foot,” police said.
Police said they had also seized several cutlasses that might have been used in the killing.
