Indonesians killed in Timehri road accident

Two Indonesians were early Friday morning killed in a three-vehicle collision between a minibus and a truck on the Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara, the Guyana Police Force said.

Indonesians Edy Ansyori Sukri and Ikomang Tedy Arsa Bantara Putra died at the scene, and four other foreigners sustained injuries, police said in a statement.

The law enforcement agency said the four injured passengers were transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Police said breathalyser tests conducted on the three drivers showed no trace of alcohol in their systems. They remained in custody were assisting with the investigation. Motor lorry GAJ 3074 was driven by a 36-year-old resident of Land of Canaan, while minibus BAH 6588 was driven by a 48-year-old resident of Lusignan and minibus BAF 1135 by a 55-year-old resident of Crane Housing Scheme.

Investigators were told that at at about 3:51 AM Friday, motor lorry GAJ 3074 was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the said road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver allegedly swerved southwest and collided with minibus BAH 6588, which was proceeding north along the western driving lane. The lorry subsequently collided with minibus BAF 1135, which was travelling behind minibus BAH 6588.

“As a result of the collisions, all three vehicles were extensively damaged, and the occupants of minibus BAF 1135 sustained injuries about their bodies,” police said.

A Guyana Defence Force ambulance, accompanied by Emergency Medical Technicians, responded to the scene.

Police said checks were made for eyewitnesses and CCTV footage; however, none was found.
