Two air conditioning technicians, contracted to work at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, and a passenger were Monday arraigned on charges of being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.The passenger, 21 year old Keon Brewster of āBā Field, Sophia and air condition technicians- Lorrick Williams of 51 Prospect, East Bank Demerara and Chris Douglas of Timehri- pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate , Priya Sewnarine-Beharry refused them bail and they were remanded to prison until June 16.
The prosecutionās case is that the technicians handed over the three bottles of El Dorado Five Year Old rum to Brewster for him to take to the United States.
The court was told that they had in their possession 6.304 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking on May 29 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru said, based on video surveillance footage, investigators believed that the transaction took place in one of the washrooms at the airport.
Anti Narcotics Police said they recognized that the rum appeared unusually thick and so they decided to test and weigh it.
After he was arrested, Brewster identified the two technicians as the persons who allegedly gave him the coke-in-rum
Brewster was unrepresented, while Douglasā lawyer is Gordon Gilhuys and Williamsā is Latchmi Rahamat.
