BREAKING: PPP also claims statistical victory in Monday’s election

Last Updated on Tuesday, 12 May 2015, 21:21 by GxMedia

The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) is also claiming statistical victory in Monday’s general elections, less than one hour after its main opponent claimed that it was enjoying a commanding lead.

PPPC Presidential Candidate, Donald Ramotar told a news conference at his party’s Freedom House headquarters that of the 2,213 Statements of Poll, his party has won 182, 664 votes and A Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) won 151, 095.

Ramotar said his party won Regions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9 but he was unclear about Region 8. While refusing to claim victory, he gave figures in support of the PPP.  He expressed confidence in winning the polls through GECOM’s announcement.

The incumbent President, flanked by Prime Ministerial candidate Elisabeth Harper and PPP campaign official, Dr, Frank Anthony, asked the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and observes to condemn APNU+AFC’s announcement. He accused the coalition of being irresponsible and reckless and also displayed wanton disregard for GECOM’s declaration.

They are deliberately creating false hope in minds of supporters, he said.

The President used the opportunity to reiterate that the PPP was aware of skullduggery that took place by recycling votes on the East Coast Demerara and Georgetown.

For its part, the coalition says at the present time with 2,025 Statement of Polls counted (or 88%), the APNU+AFC has 182,176 votes, while the PPP/C has 157,947 a variance of 24,229 votes.
