APNU+AFC member urges against wearing party colours on polling day

APNU+AFC member Kamala Persaud Saturday evening advised coalition supporters not to wear their party colours when they go out to vote on May 11^th lest they be hassled at the polling stations.

Persaud, who hails from Bartica, told the thousands of supporters who turned out to the coalition’s last rally before elections on Monday, that it is quite likely that they may encounter difficulties when they go to their respective polling stations to vote if they sport the coalition’s signature colours – yellow and/or green.

Persaud claimed that this is per information she has received, although she did not disclose the source of this information.

She thus advised using neutral colours. Meanwhile, several members of the crowd shared with each other plans to wear red; the signature colour of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), even though the party has taken to using blue in several of its television and newspaper advertisements.

This message was echoed by another speaker, Nia Gonsalves, who added that all coalition slogans and paraphernalia should be left at home on election day.

Speaking to issues affecting Guyanese, Persaud said “we fed up of blackouts, a poor health care system…road accidents and domestic violence.”

Exclaiming that “change is here,” she told the crowd that it is the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) + Alliance for Change (AFC) coalition, as opposed to the PPP/C, which will continue the legacy and vision of former president, and PPP patriarch Cheddi Jagan.
