General Election Day declared a National Holiday

In light of the upcoming General Elections, some seven days away, the country’s Home Affairs Ministry has declared May 11 a public holiday to facilitate voting activities.

In a public missive by the Home Affairs Ministry, it wished to ā€œinform the general public that in pursuance of the powers conferred on the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs by Section 6 of the Public Holiday Act, the Minister has declared Monday, May 11, 2015 as a Public Holiday in observant of General and Regional Elections.ā€

At least eight parties are contesting the General and Regional elections with over 500,000 citizens set to cast their votes for the government of choice.
