CONVICTED: Shemroy Robertson

The High Court has fined a man GY$1.7 million and sentenced him to six years imprisonment for being in possession of 1.156 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking 10 years ago, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said on Friday.

Justice Priscilla Chandra-Hanif imposed the monetary and custodial penalties on Shemroy “Minutes” Robertson on Thursday, March 19.

CANU said the case dates back to January 2016 when Robertson discarded a bag containing 139 cocaine pellets during a pursuit while driving.

He was subsequently apprehended by CANU officers while hiding at a residence on Mandela Avenue.

CANU said Robertson was currently serving two years’ imprisonment on charges related to the offence of aiding the commission of trafficking 1.174 kilograms of cannabis.

The anti-drug agency said that conviction followed a CANU operation conducted on June 17, 2021, at Anns Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Additionally, CANU said Robertson was previously charged along with three others in March 2017, though those charges were subsequently dismissed.
