Pres Ali announces Christmas bonus for joint services

Last Updated on Thursday, 18 December 2025, 23:24 by Writer

President Irfaan Ali on Thursday announced that the more than 13,000 members of the disciplined services would receive a one-month tax free bonus salary this Christmas season.

He made the announcement at the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Base Camp Stephenson.

Dr Ali said that the payout would amount to GY$2.1 billion.

He said over the past five years, his government has injected over GY$6 billion into the hands of the disciplined services—police force, GDF, prison service personnel and firefighters—”because you deserve it”

Dr Ali paid respect to the men and women of Guyana’s disciplined services whose courage and sacrifice safeguard the country.

He said his People’s Progressive Party Civic administration has consistently recognised their valuable contribution in the safety of Guyana’s borders and the protection of Guyanese.

“Over the past five years, we have not only restored the one month tax free bonus to the Disciplined Services, we also increase salaries, adjusting their pay scales of burden accelerated promotions and expanded trading opportunities,” he added.

He encouraged all members of the GDF to take advantage of not only the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), but the Ministry of Education’s Guyana Digital School to pursue Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) qualifications in Mathematics and English.

“We are not only preparing you for the protection of this country, we are preparing you to live a life of honor and dignity long after you retire, we are preparing you also, as you serve today, to enjoy the enormous benefits of this economy tomorrow.”
