The inaugural flight has successfully landed at the recently reconstructed Aishalton Airstrip, marking the completion of the project delivered through the community participation model, President Irfaan Ali said on Thursday.
Aviation Minister Deodat Indar said on Thursday that the works cost just over GY$1 billion.
He said the upgraded facility features a 2,500-foot rigid concrete runway, a parking apron for two aircraft, and modern aviation safety infrastructure, including runway lighting, markings, and signage—enhancing connectivity, safety, and access for the community.
The Guyana government had allocated GY$2.5 billion to complete and rehabilitate hinterland airstrips including Apoteri, Aishalton, Chenapou, Jawalla and Sand Creek.
