One child was killed and several others injured on Friday when a bus they were travelling in toppled in east Berbice, police sources said.
A teacher, who was driving the bus, was in a critical condition.
Police in Regional Division # 6 are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Friday November 21, 2025 about 18:05hrs on the Number 62 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice which resulted in the death of Jodea Seline, age 16, of Limlair Village, Corentyne.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motor minibus BAB 7570, driven by a 31-year-old teacher of Brighton Village was proceeding north along the roadway with several passengers when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its right side on the roadway, receiving extensive damage.
As a result, the driver and seventeen passengers, including teachers and students received injuries. They were assisted by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where Seline was pronounced dead on arrival.
Three of the injured – the 31-year-old driver, a 13-year-old female of Brighton Village and a 16-year-old female of Cromarty Village were later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in critical condition. The remaining passengers were admitted at the Number. 75 Regional Hospital under observation in stable condition.
The body of the deceased is presently at the Number 75 Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
