Policeman charged with child rape

A policeman has been charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl and remanded to prison until October 27, 2025, the Guyana Police Force said on Tuesday.

Erwin Gentle, 19, of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast, was arrested and charged on October 6, 2025 by a rank from the Division’s Gender-Based Violence Unit for rape of a child under 16 years old.

The matter was called at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Tameika Clarke, who read the charge.

The officer was not required to plead.
