Sam Hinds congratulates Ambassador Harper as PPPC’s PM candidate

Last Updated on Saturday, 21 February 2015, 19:45 by GxMedia

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds

Outgoing Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds on Saturday said he would still be available to serve the Guyana government, although he would be no longer holding the number two spot in the administration.

“Off course, a life-long committment to the People of Guyana,” he told Demerara Waves Online News when asked whether he would be available to work with the new administration should the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) administration.

Hinds,71, served as Prime Minister since 1992 when the PPPC was re-elected to office for the first time in 28 years in what was internationally certified as a free and fair poll.

The Prime Minister said now was not a time for reflection but the major task is getting President Donald Ramotar and his prime ministerial candidate, Ambassador Elisabeth Harper, elected at the May 11, 2015 general and regional elections.

Following is a statement by the Prime Minister congratulating Ambassador Harper on her selection as the prime ministerial candidate. In making the announcement on Saturday, the PPP said her lone nomination was unanimously supported by the Central Committee of that party. The Civic grouping from which Harper comes is a loosely-knit group of individuals who had come together back in the early 1990s to back the PPP under then Dr. Cheddi Jagan to contest the 1992 polls, after efforts at getting the Patriotic Coaliton for Democracy (PCD) to vie for office had failed.

Prime Minister Hinds’ statement reads:

I extend heartiest congratulations to Ms. Elisabeth Harper, Director-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs – DG, as she is familiarly known – on the announcement of her selection as Prime Ministerial candidate for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in the up-coming national and regional elections, on May 11, 2015.

DG is a Guyanese of exceptional national commitment who, I am confident, would work with everyone in pursuit of the national ‘good’.  Indeed, I commend Ms. Elisabeth Harper to all of our PPP/C supporters and to all Guyanese.

Do join me in winning every vote that we can, for Mr. Donald Ramotar as President, and Ms. Elisabeth Harper as Prime Minister!

Once again, congratulations to Ms. Elisabeth Harper!

Samuel A. A. Hinds, O.E., M.P
Prime Minister.
