Two miners shot, bandits leave empty handed

Bandits shot two men in a mining camp in the North West District before leaving empty handed, police said.

“They demanded gold but they didn’t get anything,” police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker told Demerara Waves Online News. Police in a statement said two men armed with a handgun and a cutlass entered a mining camp at Cassawini Backdam, Barima River, North West District and “demanded gold.”

Injured during the incident that occurred Thursday night about 11:30 are Randradin, 57 years, of Port Kaituma, North West District, and Aaron Ramkarran, 37 years, of Johanna Cecelia, Essequibo Coast.

Randarin was shot and injured to his left hand and Ramkarran to his right foot.They have been admitted to the Pakera Village Hospital for medical treatment as the investigations continue.
