Several of Guyana’s ambassadors have returned home in the run-up to the September 1, 2025 general and regional elections, but General Secretary of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Bharrat Jagdeo said they were not here to campaign.
“They come home frequently. They didn’t come back specifically to campaign. I didn’t order them to come back to campaign. People plan their own activities,” he said.
He did not say whether the PPP or the Guyana government paid for the envoys to return to Guyana.
Among those back home are Guyana’s Deputy Ambassador to the United States Zulfikar Ally, Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the United Nations office in Geneva Dr Leslie Ramsammy and High Commissioner to India Dharamkumar Seeraj.
“People like to be part of the action, too. Election time for us is fun time too,” Mr Jagdeo added.
